Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 changes how information about the legal guarantee must be displayed for goods sold online. For online stores, this means customers should receive clear information about the legal guarantee during the purchase journey. In online sales, the notice must be displayed in the prescribed colour format and according to unified rules.
Why the rules are changing
The legal guarantee is one of the basic consumer rights. The new rules are designed to bring this information closer to the customer — directly to the point where they are deciding whether to buy a product.
The goal is for customers to clearly see, during the purchase process, that the product is covered by the legal guarantee and where they can find basic information about their rights.
What the notice should look like
The regulation introduces a harmonised notice on the legal guarantee with unified content and visual form.
For online sales, the colour version of the notice must be used. The notice should also include a QR code directing customers to further information on the Your Europe portal.
The harmonised notice itself has a prescribed form. When implementing it in an online store, it is therefore important to distinguish between the design of the information element in the product detail and the prescribed content of the notice that must be shown to the customer.

What online stores will need to adjust
Information about the legal guarantee should be available directly next to the product. In practice, this may be a visible icon, label or information element in the product detail.
After clicking it, the customer should see an information window with the prescribed legal guarantee notice.
Implementation will mainly require:
- placing the information element in the product detail,
- displaying the notice after a click,
- adding the prescribed content,
- using the colour version for online sales,
- aligning the solution with the design of the online store,
- ensuring correct display on mobile and desktop,
- making it work across different types of product detail pages.
What about the GARAN label?
The regulation also covers the harmonised label for the commercial guarantee of durability, referred to in the supporting materials as GARAN.
GARAN is not related to the standard legal guarantee that applies to every product. It is used for products where the manufacturer offers, at no additional cost, a commercial guarantee of durability beyond the legal guarantee.
In such cases, customers are shown information about the existence and duration of this commercial guarantee. In the GARAN label, details such as the number of years, the manufacturer or brand name, and the model identifier are replaced with the relevant product-specific information.

How to prepare your online store
The rules will apply from 27 September 2026. Since the change affects the product detail page, we recommend taking it into account during your next online store updates. Early implementation gives you time to place the information element correctly, check the prescribed notice, fine-tune the mobile and desktop display, and deploy the solution safely.
A well-designed implementation will help you meet the legal requirement while keeping the product detail clear and easy to use.
We will be happy to help you implement legal guarantee information in a way that fits the design of your online store and respects the new rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do the rules for displaying legal guarantee information in online stores change?
The rules will apply from 27 September 2026. From this date, information about the legal guarantee in online sales must be displayed in line with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960.
What is a harmonised notice on the legal guarantee?
A harmonised notice is a prescribed notice about the legal guarantee, with unified content and visual form. It should clearly show customers that the goods are covered by the legal guarantee and where they can find more information about their rights.
Where should legal guarantee information appear in an online store?
Legal guarantee information should be available during the purchase journey, ideally directly in the product detail. In practice, this may be an icon, label or information element which opens the harmonised notice after a click.
Can an online store design its own legal guarantee notice?
An online store may adapt the information element in the product detail, such as the icon or link. However, the harmonised notice on the legal guarantee itself has a prescribed form and its elements should not be modified.
Does the notice have to be displayed in colour for online sales?
Yes. For contracts concluded remotely through an online interface, the colour version of the harmonised notice should be used. For online stores, this means the notice is expected to be displayed in colour.
Does the notice include a QR code?
Yes. The harmonised notice includes a QR code that directs customers to further information on the Your Europe portal. The QR code is part of the prescribed notice.
What does the GARAN label mean?
GARAN is the harmonised label for the commercial guarantee of durability. It is used for products where the manufacturer offers, at no additional cost, a commercial guarantee of durability beyond the legal guarantee.
What is the difference between the legal guarantee and the GARAN label?
The legal guarantee covers basic consumer rights when purchasing goods. The GARAN label is used only for products where the manufacturer provides a commercial guarantee of durability beyond the legal guarantee, for example for a specific number of years.
Which details are filled in on the GARAN label?
The GARAN label includes the duration of the commercial guarantee of durability in years, the manufacturer or brand name, and the model identifier. The other prescribed elements of the label remain unchanged.
Why is it worth implementing this change early?
The change affects the product detail, clickable element, information window, mobile display and overall online store design. Early implementation gives you time to place the element correctly, check the display and deploy the solution safely before the rules start to apply.
