So as not to interrogate only our developers, this month we decided to interview our UI/UX designer. His name is Jakub and he will tell you more in the interview.
How did you get to graphic design?
I got into graphic design as a child in elementary school already, when my parents bought our first computer home. Since I also attended elementary art school at the time, I had a close relationship with art as such. I created my first website, for which I got paid, with a classmate as early as in elementary school.
What do you think a good-quality UI designer should master?
First of all, they should have an aesthetic feeling, they should follow current trends in graphic design and, of course, they should also know the basic principles of graphic design. If we are talking about a web designer, then a big advantage is if they know HTML and CSS. Besides, they should be aware of the fact that design is not created for themselves, but for the users, so that’s why it’s important that they follow topics such as UX.
Where do you get inspiration from?
Like most designers, I follow sites like Dribbble and Behance. I also have the ‘Muzli’ extension from InVision installed in Google Chrome, which collects content from more than 150 sites focusing on design. However, I don’t find inspiration only on the Internet, but I also notice things around me. Whether it’s a drink menu in a cafe, a magazine cover in a newsstand or any other kind of art.
How did you find out about bart.sk and what is your job description?
I heard about bart.sk in my previous job, where I worked in the marketing department.
At bart.sk I work as an UI/UX designer. My job is to create design with respect to user behavior. In other words, my job is to create digital experiences.
Which project was the biggest challenge for you?
I cannot answer this unequivocally. Every new project is a challenge for me and I’m always curious what will come of it.
How do you go about creating design?
First, I arrange a face-to-face meeting with the client, where I get acquainted with the project and gather all the necessary information. In case we’re talking about redesigning an already existing website and the client has data from analytical tools, I request access to them. Thanks to this data, I can understand the target group better. Then I will design a basic concept on which we define the colors, the font used and the overall style of design. In the next step, I start working on the final proposal, which I gradually transform into a clickable prototype. I actively communicate with the client throughout the process. Thanks to the prototype, the client has a clear idea of what the product will look like in the end. At the end, I do user testing to check whether a customer can quickly and easily navigate the design. If I find usability errors, I make the necessary changes and verify that the change resolves the issue.
